One of the challenges in obtaining a prosthetic solution has so far been its financing. Since January 1, 2024, the amounts of funding for prostheses under the National Health Fund (NFZ) have increased significantly (covering everyone), and the funding options under the Active Local Government program have also been expanded – it is now available for people from 16 years of age.
We present three main financing options, which, when combined, in many cases allow for a prosthesis to be provided at no cost to the patient.

Who can receive funding?

What needs to be done? – three simple steps
First, you need to visit your primary care physician to obtain a referral to the appropriate specialist, such as:
a surgeon,
an orthopedist,
a physician specialized in rehabilitation,
a physiotherapy specialist,
a traumatologist.
Next, the specialist issues a prescription/order for medical supplies.
The final step is to come to us with the issued prescription/order 🙂
When can we apply for funding under the NFZ?
The prescription/order can be obtained throughout the calendar year, but please note that it is valid for one year.

Who can receive funding?
- People of working age (from 16 years old until retirement age)
- People over working age, provided they are employed
- A person with a disability certificate

Important! The Active Society program requires a 10% contribution. It can be covered using funds from the NHF, foundations, personal resources, or other sources.
MOPS, GOPS and PCPR
Who can receive funding?
- People with a disability certificate and a valid prescription/order from the NFZ
What is required?
- A photocopy of the NFZ prescription/order received from the medical device provider, including the cost of the device and the personal contribution.
- A completed application for funding (available at any PCPR/MOPS).
- A disability certificate or degree of disability certificate.
- A statement of the monthly income of the disabled person or their guardian, calculated per family member in the household.
- Invoice from the facility fulfilling the prescription/order.
When?
Funds are available within the institutions’ budgets. Their availability depends on usage, so the earlier the application, the better.
Funding amount
Up to a maximum of 150% of the amount guaranteed by the NFZ for the prescribed medical device.
What does the funding cover?
Funding for the purchase of a hand prosthesis is intended to provide financial support to individuals in need of high-quality prosthetic devices. Programs such as the National Health Fund (NFZ) and the Active Society program offer funds to cover part or all of the cost of a hand prosthesis. Under the NFZ, patients can receive reimbursement for prostheses that meet specific quality standards, which affects the final cost of the hand prosthesis after funding. The Active Society program, implemented by the State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons (PFRON), provides additional financial support, especially for people who are professionally active or studying, which can significantly reduce the cost of a hand prosthesis.
Who can apply for funding? – Prosthetic arm price
Funding for the purchase of limb prostheses is available to individuals who have a disability certificate and a current prescription from a specialist doctor for a prosthesis. In the case of the National Health Fund (NFZ), health insurance coverage and payment of ZUS contributions are required. The “Active Local Government” program is aimed at people of working age or students who have a disability certificate and a stable health condition. Thanks to these programs, the cost of a prosthetic hand can be significantly reduced. It is also worth noting the possibility of receiving support from local social assistance centers, such as MOPS or PCPR, which can further lower the cost of a prosthetic hand.
Who cannot benefit? – Prosthetic hand cost
Individuals who do not meet the specific criteria of aid programs cannot benefit from funding for the purchase of a cosmetic prosthetic hand. This primarily applies to people without a disability certificate or without a current prescription from a specialist doctor. Additionally, individuals with outstanding financial obligations to PFRON or local social assistance centers, such as MOPS or PCPR, are also ineligible for support. Settling financial obligations is a necessary condition for applying for funding, which directly affects the cost of a prosthetic hand after financial assistance is applied. Therefore, it is important to resolve any outstanding debts before submitting an application in order to access available forms of support and reduce the price of a cosmetic prosthetic hand.
What factors affect the price of a prosthetic hand?
